- The intention to return to Mexico at the end of the trip.
- Possession of a valid Mexican passport, valid for at least six months after the planned date of departure from the U.S. territory.
- A temporary stay, justified by an itinerary, an invitation or a reservation.
- Strong ties in Mexico, such as a job, a business, real estate or family ties.
- Sufficient financial resources to cover the costs of your stay.
Step-by-step application procedure
- Fill out form DS-160 on the official website of the U.S. Department of State. The form is completed online, and you must upload a recent photo in the required format.
- Pay visa fees. The B2 visa fee is 185 USD and is non-refundable. Payment is made online or at an authorized center.
- Schedule an appointment on the website of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico. You’ll need to go to the CAS (Centro de Atención a Solicitantes) to take fingerprints and photos. You can then make an appointment at the Embassy or Consulate (Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tijuana, etc.).
- Pass the consular interview. You’ll need to bring your passport, DS-160 confirmation, payment receipt, and any documents proving your ties to Mexico. The consular officer will ask questions about your income, employment, family and travel plans.
- Collect your visa. If accepted, your B2 visa will be affixed to your passport.
